MAJOR PORTER
Major Porter, LMT, is a Licensed Massage Therapist with over 16 years of hands-on experience providing client-centered, integrative bodywork in both clinical and wellness environments. His work is grounded in the understanding that physical health, nervous system regulation, and emotional well-being are deeply interconnected, making massage therapy a meaningful component of mental health treatment.
Major completed formal massage therapy training at Action Massage School in 2013 and became licensed the same year. His professional foundation is strongly informed by advanced training in Asian bodywork, including intensive study in Japan and attending instructional classes on Asian bodywork in China. This background shapes his skilled use of meridian-based work, acupressure points, pressure-point therapy, and traditional Japanese and Asian massage techniques.
In addition to Eastern modalities, Major has extensive training in Western therapeutic approaches, including sports massage, Swedish massage, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, Smart Work Therapy®, rapid release and tension release techniques, and lymphatic drainage. He completed specialized lymphatic drainage training with additional post-operative lymphatic drainage education.
Major is proficient in pain management and works with both acute and chronic conditions using deep tissue, deep pressure, alternating pressure, stretching, and neuromuscular re-education. His skill set includes PNF stretching, iso-stretching, ROM, PROM, AROM, and APROM techniques, as well as hot stone therapy applied across multiple modalities to support relaxation and tissue release when clinically appropriate.
Major Porter’s education also includes continuing and interdisciplinary coursework through Athens Technical College (2007–2009), Georgia State University (2017), AOTA-aligned continuing education (2021), and ISSN certification (2023), supporting an evidence-informed and integrative approach to care.
Practicing within a psychology group setting, Major brings a trauma-informed, consent-centered philosophy to each session. Their work emphasizes safety, grounding, and embodiment, supporting clients who may be navigating anxiety, chronic stress, trauma recovery, or the physical effects of emotional strain. Sessions are paced intentionally and tailored to support both physical comfort and nervous system regulation.
Committed to ongoing learning and collaborative care, Major values working alongside mental health professionals to support clients’ broader therapeutic goals. His aim is to help clients feel more regulated, supported, and connected to their bodies as part of a holistic path toward healing.
